BEN TALKS

Strategy talks, speeches and presentations

Looking for an experienced strategy speaker to speak at your next event or to your people?  Someone who intimately understands the theories, principles and practices of strategy?  And who knows how to apply these principles and practices to all performance domains such as business, team and personal performance?

If so, I might be the person you need. But just to be sure, let me give you some heads-up about me as a speaker.

First up, I am not a motor mouth motivational speaker. Meaning? I’m not one of those speakers who talks at a 100 miles an hour, jumps up and down like a cat on heat, gets the audience into a state of hypnotic euphoria, and speaks mainly to entertain and to leave people with nice feelings in their bellies.

That is not me.

As a speaker, my primary role is that of a teacher and instructor. Therefore I teach to impart skills, knowledge and ideas, as opposed to spewing out motivational hot air.

Second, I am not an eloquent orator.  You know, the Barack Obama-like speaker with a golden voice, perfect diction and silky-smooth delivery?

That’s not me either.

I speak using presentation outlines as opposed to word-for-word speech notes.  As a result, I sometimes “um” and “ah”, and what I say can occassionally come off as being less polished.

Now, although I’m neither elqouent or into motivational mumbo jumbo, I am not a boring stiff.  So, don’t expect me just to stand next to a Powerpoint presentation or behind a lectern, and waffle on like a half asleep and monotonous university professor. Otherwise, you will be sadly disappointed.

I am an active speaker and like to move around a lot when presenting.  I rarely use Powerpoint, but I’m a big fan of visual aids, object lessons, demonstrations and the good old fashioned white-board.

What do you get from me as a speaker?

In a nutshell, advanced strategic management wisdom.

As you know, strategic management is the overarching leadership skill of planning and executing a strategy to achieve a big goal and vision.

Strategic management was established as a business discipline in the 1950s and is taught as the capstone subject in the MBA program.

Advanced strategic management applies the skill of strategic management across multiple domains, not just business.  Applying the skill in this way helps you to improve performance in all areas of your life including health, relationships, business/career, education and finances.

With regards to strategic management, I share with you lots and lots of experiences.  More than 30 years of successes and mistakes from both myself and those who I have worked with.  Think of these as case studies of life.

In sharing these experiences and case studies with you, I back bone them with strategy principles and theories.  That way you get to see how the underlying theory is applied.

And finally, when you combine the experiences and case studies with the underlying theories, you get wisdom.

And the topics?

Speaking topics and content will be developed from The Strategic Framework.

Here are some sample topics, which can be presented as a short 20 minute speech or as long as a multi-day conference presentation. And in terms of group size/audience numbers, I’ve addressed audiences as small as three, and as large as 1,500.

Audiences and fees

The audiences I speak to fall into three groups:

  • Corporate/Business (CEOs, business owners and leaders)
  • Teams (Business, non-profit, sports teams)
  • Youth, parents, youth leaders and caregivers

And fees? Most of the speaking I do for youth is free, or is sponsored by a school, business or non-profit for a nominal fee.  A number of public speeches and lectures are also free.  Fees for non profits and community sports teams are also heavily reduced or subsidised.

All other fees start from $5,000.
