How to develop the #1 leadership and life skill
An introduction to Strategic MBA
In 2023 the global market for executive education programs was worth US$42 billion according to leading research firm, Research and Markets. More significantly, the market is forecasted to more than double to US98.6 billion in 2030.
Another research firm, Mordor Intelligence, values the combined global executive education and executive coaching markets at US$103.56 billion as at 2025. And it forecasts these combined markets to be worth US$161.1 billion by 2030.
It is clear to see. Executive education and executive coaching are in-demand markets. Why so?
World-leading business and personal development author, Brian Tracy, wrote that business the very best leaders are those who are “continually increasing their levels of knowledge and skill.” (Source: Create Your Future)
It’s true. To improve their business and personal lives, the best leaders continually develop their knowledge. More importantly though, they convert that knowledge into valuable skills.
What about you? Are you continually developing your knowledge? And then turning that knowledge into valuable skills?
The #1 Leadership and Life Skill
As a leader there are a multitude of skills you could develop and improve. But one skill stands above all others.
The most important skill you need to develop? Strategic management. Fact is, strategic management is the #1 leadership and life skill.
As outlined above, strategic management is the overaching leadership skill of planning and executing a strategy in the achievement of a goal. Put another way, strategic management is the skill of setting and achieving goals.
Established as a business discipline in the 1950s, strategic management is considered to be the key leadership skill for business leaders. So much so that strategic management is taught as the capstone – or most important – subject in the traditional MBA program.
The reality is though, strategic management is the #1 life skill. That is, you apply the skill of strategic management every time you are setting and achieving goals in all areas of your life.
The place where many business leaders learn strategic management is the traditional MBA program. Unfortunately, when it comes to developing strategic management, there are some problems with the traditional MBA.
Firstly, students are often taught a theory-heavy and corporate-focused approach to subjects like strategic planning. The textbooks used in these subjects are both detailed and complex. And the subjects themselves are often taught by professors who have little in the way of practical strategic management experience. They teach theory and, to coin a phrase from businessman and best-selling author, Nassim Taleb, “they have no skin in the game.”
Listen up. The complex strategic management theory and buzzwords may be ok if you plan to work for a large corporate or government department and enjoy pontificating over theory. Reality is though, most of it is bullshit.
Next, in the traditional MBA there not enough integration between strategic management and the other skills in the leadership skill set. There is a strong emphasis on the so-called “hard skills” or technical subjects such as finance, accounting, operations, statistics and economics. And not enough focus on other key leadership skills such as relationship wealth, strategic communication, health and fitness, and mindset performance.
Most importantly, MBA students are not taught how to apply strategic management skills to improve overall work-life performance.
The consequences? Many MBAers – including executives and business owners doing an executive MBA – get hit with a dose of reality when they compare theoretical and complex MBA learning with the real world.
The fact of the matter is this. You could be a technical genius with an IQ of 160. But if you don’t have much in the way of practical strategic management skills, you are not going to get very far.
Let me tell you about Strategic MBA – for advanced strategic management development.
What is Strategic MBA?
Strategic MBA is an education and training program dedicated to strategy. And achieving strategic management mastery. Contrast this with the traditional MBA which, as highlighted above, focuses heavily on “hard skills” and management science.
Strategic MBA is perfect for you if you:
- Understand the key role that strategic management plays in performance improvement.
- Want to learn innovative techniques to help you to be better at analysing and developing strategy.
- Want to be a better strategic decision maker.
- Have an idea for a new product or brand and want to see if it is worth pursuing.
- Want to be better at executing strategy.
- Want to get all your shit together and achieve strategic mastery – at work and in life
If you answered “yes” to any of the above, then Strategic MBA could be just what you need. But to be doubly sure, check out these warnings, designed to discourage the wrong people from inquiring.
With Strategic MBA there is….
No pie-in-the-sky academic theory. So if you are looking some theoretical nonsense from a business school professor who has spent most of his or her working life in a university, Strategic MBA is not for you.
Yes, Strategic MBA draws upon theories and models you will find in business school and corporate training courses. But, the theories and models are applied in a practical way.
No corporate or government department bullshit. Do you want to learn all the overly complex systems and associated buzzwords found in many corporates and government departments? You won’t find it in Strategic MBA.
Strategic MBA is geared towards the leaders of dynamic companies, competing in dynamic industries. Business owners who have skin in the game and are committed to growth and strategic performance
No motivational hype. Need a motivational pep talk? If so, Strategic MBA will help you to become more motivated. But, there is no over-the-top motivational hype, so do not read any further if hype is what you’re after.
Seriously though, if you’re just looking for a Tony Robbins-type speaker who rants at 100 miles an hour, jumps up and down like a dog on heat, and gets the audience into a state of euphoria with lots of chants and cheers…then Strategic MBA is not for you..
No get rich quick schemes. Searching for that next “big thing” that’ll make you filthy rich in next to no time? If so, Strategic MBA will make you very disillusioned. That’s because you will learn that success requires a good strategy, hard work and a long term commitment.
No airy-fairy, law of attraction pseudo-scientific nonsense. Are you one of those people seduced by the idea that you can attract your way to success? Do you worship at the altar of the law of attraction, magical thinking and new thought schools of success? You will not be a good candidate for Strategic MBA.
No boring lectures. Delivery of a traditional MBA program is done primarily by lecture, which is essentially a method of conveying information. Now while lectures may be an acceptable way to pass on knowledge and information, they are woefully inadequate for skill set development and performance improvement.
Strategic MBA, on the other hand, is delivered mainly by interactive training sessions presented by highly experienced coaches and advisors. Applying a coaching model used by elite-level sports coaches, Strategic MBA’s priority is skill set development and performance improvement.
Ultimately, Strategic MBA is for serious business leaders only. It strips away all the unnecessary theory to the essential core, giving you solutions that still have a strong theoretical foundation, but are also extremely practical and powerful.
When training, our primary role is that of a teacher and instructor. In other words, we impart skills, knowledge and ideas, as opposed to screaming out motivational hot air or spewing theory.
So here are some promises. Firstly, there is no convoluted jargon, or complex theories and models, which is so prominent in business school and corporate courses on strategy.
Next, there will be no hype or b.s that many motivational speakers like to use. And third, we will not be boring old farts.
What we’ve done is take important strategy and performance theory, stripped it down to ordinary, everyday language, and then combine it with real-world practicality. You won’t need an IQ of 180 to understand what we’re going on about. And, you will know how the stuff you’re learning can be applied to your business and life.
There is plenty of opportunity for dialogue. In a workshop format for example, the workshops themselves are customized to meet student needs, and are designed for smaller groups, with typically fewer than twenty participants in a training session.
And there is flexibility of design, with the content able to be structured in 60 minute to multi-day sessions.

Let’s get back to Brian Tracy. He wrote that “If you want to be lucky, you must never forget that the future belongs to the competent…The future belongs to the people with the critical knowledge of how to get results, and those who are adding to their knowledge base every day.” (From Creating Your Future. John Wiley and Sons)
